Public Health Fund Management in Nigeria

Service: Fund Management
Geography: Nigeria

An international initiative that supports the rapid development and equitable distribution of vaccines to prevent future epidemics engaged Edes & Associates to deliver fund management support for the Enable Lassa Research Programme in Nigeria. This programme was designed to estimate the incidence of the Lassa fever virus and Lassa fever in the country. The project required overseeing a US$6 million grant and ensuring proper allocation of funds to key partners, including the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and three major teaching hospitals.

Situation

To ensure effective fund management, Edes & Associates took on several critical responsibilities:

Fiduciary Agent Role: Managed the $6 million USD grant, ensuring compliance with all financial regulations.

Fund Allocation: Distributed resources accurately to key partners, including the NCDC and the three teaching hospitals.

Accountability Coordination: Oversaw the accountability processes for implementing partners across Nigeria, ensuring transparency and proper use of funds.

Compliance Support: Addressed all accountability requirements outlined by the funder and the NCDC Coordination Office, maintaining strict financial integrity throughout the programme.

Solutions

Through effective fund management and coordination, Edes & Associates ensured that the allocated funds were utilized efficiently and transparently. Their support helped to strengthen the financial management and accountability of the Enable Lassa Research Programme, enabling the partners to focus on their research and public health efforts.
