Financial Management Technical Assistance to UNEPI

A global health partnership focused on increasing access to life-saving vaccines in resource-limited settings has supported the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Health since 2001. Over this period, Uganda has received over US$ 500 million in vaccine and non-vaccine support. Edes & Associates was tasked with providing financial management technical assistance to the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunisation (UNEPI).

Edes & Associates provided the client’s Country Programme Team with both short-term and medium-term financial management technical assistance to support and strengthen UNEPI's financial management. Edes & Associates worked collaboratively with UNEPI, the Uganda Ministry of Health, and other local government partners to ensure that funds flowed efficiently to the implementation level and were spent per the client’s Cash Grant Agreements.

The scope of work covered five thematic areas:

  1. Planning and budgeting

  2. Coordination, management, and oversight

  3. Financial management

  4. Procurement and the Yellow Fever Campaign

  5. Monitoring and risk management of the sub-granting mechanism for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Engagement

Results

By providing thorough financial management technical assistance, Edes & Associates has empowered the Ministry of Health/UNEPI and local governments to utilize funds effectively, ensuring effective compliance while enhancing the overall financial management capabilities of UNEPI to ultimately reduce morbidity, mortality, and disability from vaccine-preventable diseases among children, women of childbearing age and other vulnerable populations in Uganda.
