Business Improvement Assessment for a Network of 14 Public Health and Veterinary Higher Education Institutions

A network of fourteen Public Health and Veterinary Higher Education Institutions across six countries: Ethiopia, Congo, DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, was a sub-recipient of a US$ 11.8 million grant award through RESPOND, one of USAID’s Emergent Zoonotic disease programmes. Edes & Associates was engaged to conduct a business improvement assessment for the Network focused on various aspects, including governance, financial management, organisational management, programme management, project performance management, and human resource management. Additionally, the assignment included a pre-audit financial assessment concentrating on fund management, internal controls, and financial reporting.

Situation

Edes & Associates’ scope of work included:

Evaluating governance structures and providing recommendations for improvement.

Reviewing financial management systems and practices to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.

Accessing organisational structures and processes to enhance operational effectiveness.

Assessing human resource practices and providing recommendations for capacity building.

Conducting a thorough review of fund management, internal controls, and financial reporting to ensure compliance and accountability.
